ART FOUNDATIONS 1
Where Young Artists Build Strong Foundations—and the Confidence to Keep Creating
Perfect for beginners ages 6+ • No art experience needed
Art Foundations I introduces children to real drawing and color skills through fun, age-appropriate projects designed for how younger artists learn. With patient, step-by-step instruction, students learn to see shapes, solve creative problems, and become more confident with every project.

A Great Place to Begin
Art 1 is designed for children who are developing their foundational drawing skills—whether they already love art or are just discovering that they can create.

Art 1 may be a great fit if your child:
✔ Is between approximately 6–8 years old
✔ Loves drawing but wants to learn more
✔ Is new to structured art lessons
✔ Needs help breaking pictures into manageable shapes
✔ Gets frustrated when artwork doesn't turn out "perfectly"
✔ Is ready to build confidence and independence
Older beginner? Your child may be more comfortable starting in Art 2. I'll be happy to help you choose.
More Than "Follow Me and Draw"
Because Learning Art Should Be More Than Following Along
Learn How to Draw
Students learn how to see lines, shapes, and relationships so they can use those skills in their own artwork.
Build Skills Step by Step
Lessons are part of a structured curriculum rather than a collection of unrelated projects.
Creativity Is Encouraged
Every child's artwork is allowed to look different. Students make choices and develop their own ideas.
Mistakes Become Part of Learning
Students practice working through frustration, solving problems, and discovering that art doesn't have to be perfect.

Look What Young Artists Can Create
Confidence That Grows With Every Project
"Emma has grown tremendously in herself thanks to Mrs. Swaney's art class. She has struggled with comparison and perfectionism, and this class has challenged her to see her mistakes as 'happy accidents'...
Her confidence has grown and even when she gets frustrated, she doesn't give up. Mrs. Swaney's art class goes beyond teaching students art—it teaches them life skills—patience, overcoming challenges, and how to have fun in the midst of imperfection."
- Victoria, Emma's mom (Art 1)
